Protect Spray -- You Can Make It!!
Recently, a customer asked if I could make a copy cat version of Young Living's Thieves Spray. After looking into the product, I decided to avoid using the alcohol base that Young Living chose, mostly based on our recent understanding of the cleaning abilities of alcohol v. hydrogen peroxide. If you haven't had an opportunity to check out that study, I posted it (below) for your viewing pleasure. In a nut shell, hydrogen peroxide blew everything out of the water when it came to cleaning, though essential oils scored much better than most other cleaners on the market (including vinegar!). This biochemist also added essential oils to hydrogen peroxide to see if they would alter the chemical balance and they worked perfectly together.
So you know where I'm going with this... It's simple!! Take a 2 oz. spray bottle (and we have these in the store, in the "Empty Bottles" category) and fill it almost entirely with hydrogen peroxide. Add between 5 - 10 ml of Protect essential oil, shake and spray. That's it. It's easy, effective, and it smells wonderful.
Have a happy, germ-free day! :)
Update: Since posting this blog, I've been using peroxide continually as my only spray cleaner. It is a wonderful cleaner and works great to kill bacteria, etc. It is also very potent and shouldn't be handled with bare hands. After using it for a few months, my fingers began hurting constantly. Eventually, i realized that the peroxide was burning my fingers as I was using it to clean counters. Now, I wear gloves when I use peroxide. My recommendation is that if you want to make a "Protect Spray," don't use it on your skin. Instead, get some Protect Balm (sold in our "Balms" section).
